4th of July Contest

With so many gret ideas for the 4th of July, I want to see what you do to your nails, so if you do your nails send me a picture and I will feature them on this blog! Please send all pictures to thenailguru9@gmail.com  by Friday, July 6.

Teal Dot Tips

I created this design literally with no idea what to do, it started out as just teal then I found the lighter color and dotted my entire thumb. I planned on doing the same on the rest of my fingers but then my food came to my house and I was distracted with just the top done. Later I saw how cool it looked and continued on the other nails. Another way to do this would be to just put a stripe of dots rather that tips. You could try this with many other colors like pinks or even orange colors. What do you think? Sound off in the comments!

1- paint the nails a base coat, and let it dry all the way!
2- pick a similar color either lighter or darker, now use a bobby pin or dotter to dot the entire thumb.
3-for the other four fingers take the dotter and get ready, the lowest line should be right at where your nail starts to go straight from the outer curve. A little hard to understand, I know, just make sure to get about three rows in.
4-fill in the next two rows
5-repeat for the next 3 nails.
6-apply a clear coat!
and you are done, so enjoy!
Polishes used:
Teal: Milani- Neon Teal
Light Blue: Wet N' Wild Mega Last- I need a refreshmint

Nail Trends: One finger flair

One thing I have noticed on my quests for inspiration, because after all i need to stay in tune with what's cool.   One trend I have noticed  is people who will do solid colors on all but one of their nails. On usually the ring finger they will either do glitter or a design. The thing about it is that it adds so much flair to your nails and it is so much easier than it looks. Especially if you go with glitter, so cute with very little work. So try out thins style, and you can email me a picture to show how it turned out if you want!

Product Review: Sally Hansen Salon Effects PART 2!!!

I am writing a review for this product again, not because I have seen the amazing uses of the product, but because I need to reiterate how much it sucks. Before I tell you my findings, I need to assure you I did not lose my mind and succumb to the outrageous prices and pick myself up a beautiful box of the junk!  No I bought it because it was on clearance for like 2.50 or something, and that is probably the only reason I did not beat my head into the wall!
So I started using this product today. The natural first step was to read the instructions , so I did, it seemed easy enough, just stick em on right. WRONG!!!! The next hour and a half was the most tedious and irritating nail experience ever. First you have to peal off the protective cover, then take the strip off the backing. I am not even kidding you now that you will probably spend about five minutes just trying to peal the dang strip off and in the process wrinkle the already applied strips. So then the problem is that the nails all look like crap, and there isn't really time to redo the nails now.
Now here are the benefits:
  • If you squint they look great or also if you are blind
  • these are a great way to replace your purchase of about five packs of gum.
All in all don't use these unless they pay you!

Nail Designs of the Runway: how to rock the designs of fashion week!

Say adios to the big bags and accessories because now is the time to let your nails take their place! I'll be the first to admit, that yes the nails strait off the runway are a little to daring. But if you can just tone it down a bit, you will have a stunning yet practical manicure in no time. This is what I found:

  • Go for the Gold!: There were many appearances of gold nails on the runway, and it isn't too hard to do this yourself. Just hit the drug store and grab yourself a bottle of gold polish and you're set. It will leave your nails sparkling and you can show just how in tune you are to fashion. My pick for the perfect gold color would be Milani. The gold has large glitter chunks to add the dimension you need for a winning look!
  • Wear the Nude!: Another hit at fashion week was pale colors such as nude or pale pink. This is making your nails so understated that they stand out. Plus chips are much less visible with light colors so for a low maintenance look I recommend the nudes. Go with an Essie polish, they have a huge selection of light polish, so try one, you might like it!
  • Try an Ombre!: Ombre is still ever popular, and why not they look absolutely stunning. So to do this look at my other post and you can try it for your self. I recommend the dark colors for this design, otherwise it is hardly noticeable and looks like your nails are diseased! Eww, who would want that.
  • Use Some Gems For Texture!: Using gems is a great way to style and snazz up simple designs. I don't recommend using real crystals though, they may do it on the runway, but its one of those things you shouldn't try at home. But the look can add the perfect pop to any outfit.
